In loving Memory...

Maggie needed a special home

This very special 4 year old girl had a rare fungus that put thick

fibrous knots on her foot that had to be cut off almost daily.

After two years of taking medication (8 pills a day) the condition seemed

to be gone and the vet said she was done with treatment.

The day after she stopped taking the medicine, the knots came back

worse than before and she had to have her leg amputated.

She was a very Sweet dog with lots of love to give.

Maggies Last day was at a festival. She was getting all kinds of attention and affection.

She was outside in the beautiful sunshine and not in a crate.

She was on the grass and lots of kids and adults

alike were petting her and feeding her treats.

The Dr. said she likely had a stroke. She had a full day at the festival and

went peacefully as soon as I got her out of the truck when we got home.

She is running on all fours now.

God Bless Maggie

 Devin and Hero

Devin and his Grandmother came into Petco one Saturday

on their way to his 5th birthday party.

Devins Grandmother explained to us that he was born with an

extremely rare condition that he and only one other child in the US has.

As a result, he has had about 8 surgeries so far and is expected that

he will have more.

While we were getting the story on Devin, he was in the pen with 6 dogs.

He walked around looking at them all and trying to communicate with

them and trying to get them to play with him. As the Grandmother was

finishing telling us his story, he had picked "his" dog, the one with the

blue collar. They had spent more time there than planned and had to

rush off to the party. We got a call about 3 hours later and the

grandmother was making sure we were still there. We assured her

that we would stay until they could get back.

When they returned,

Devin got back in the pen and went straight to Hero, "his" dog.

While he was laying on the floor petting Hero, we talked more with

the Grandmother and explained that Hero couldn't go home today but

would have to go to the vet and get fixed first.

When she told him Hero couldn't go home with him but would have

to have a surgery first, he said in a very sweet little voice "will he

have to ride the elevator like I do,,,,, and will someone be there

to hold his hand?"

We couldn't hold back the tears but somehow held it together

enough to reassure him that someone certainly would be there to hold Hero's hand.

"Hey there. Just wanted to say I love my new home and we're getting along fine. They've bought me toys and feed me well. We play outside every chance we get. The little dogs bark at me, but I just ignore them most of the time. A couple of them are really nice when they're on my territory, but I think I'll stay out of their way just to be safe. I have new collars to wear and show off all the time. Right now, I'm wearing an Easter Egg one and since Madi plays softball, I have a baseball one too. I love my bed and hardly go in my kennel at ALL anymore. I had a sore foot, so they dragged me to the doctor, kicking and screaming. The doctor said I'm a wimp, so they gave me pain meds, but I only took them one day. My foot is better now and we're all doing fine. I'd send you pics, but I can't really figure out how to work the camera for myself. Maybe they'll send some soon. I hope you have a Happy Easter!"

Love,
Stormy
